Schedule

Okay, here’s how The Great Southern Slam tournament is going to work…

The short story:

Eighteen tournament teams will compete over three days to become THE GREAT SOUTHERN SLAM WINNER. YAY!

The detail:

Group Rounds

In the Group Rounds, the eighteen starting tournament teams are divided into six Groups of three teams. Bouts in this round are shorter than standard, with a total game time of 40 minutes, in 20 minute halves.

Each team bouts twice, against the other teams in their Group, to determine one Group winner. Each of the Group winners qualifies to move on to the next round.

Two Group second-place teams (based on point differentials across all Groups) will also move on to the next round.

So that’s a total of eighteen bouts in the Group Rounds stage to determine which eight of the eighteen tournament teams will move on to the Quarter Finals.

Quarter Finals

Games 19, 20, 21 and 22 of the tournament see eight teams play one bout each to determine a winner for each of four Quarter Finals bouts. The winning four teams move on to the Semi Finals.

Semi Finals

Four teams each skate one bout in the two Semi Finals games, Games 23 and 24. This stage determines which two teams win a spot in the Grand Final, but all four teams will skate again in the Finals Round.

Finals Round

The two runners-up teams from the Semi Finals round will play off against each other for Third Place and Fourth Place.

The two winning teams from the Semi Finals round will compete in the Grand Final, for Second Place and THE GREAT SOUTHERN SLAM WINNER.

Match Up Bouts

Twelve leagues will be playing against another league they have never played before.

Challenge Bouts

Challenge Bouts are miniature bouts that will be held over The Great Southern Slam weekend. The bouts will probably be around 20-30 minutes long (so, 10-15 min halves), and these fun, impromptu scrimmages will be held all weekend.
