Venue
The Adelaide Showground
The Great Southern Slam will take place in the iconic Adelaide Showground.
Tournament bouts will be held in both the Jubilee and Wayville pavilions of the Adelaide Showground; huge open indoor spaces each capable of housing 2-3 derby tracks, and surfaced with polished concrete.
Located in Wayville, on the south-west corner of the heritage-listed Adelaide Parklands, the Adelaide Showground is just a 5 minute drive from the Adelaide CBD.
The pavilions are closest to the section of the Showground bounded by Rose Terrace and Goodwood Road. Bout day entry for spectators and supporters is usually via the Rose Terrace gates, and to rollergirls and refs via Rose Terrace or Leader Street, but we’ll confirm that detail closer to the tournament dates.
On Sunday mornings, the Farmer’s Market (for great coffee and various tasty foodstuffs) is accessible via the Leader Street entrance.
Track-side food and beverages are available, with classic snack foods such as hotdogs and chips, as well as beer, soft drinks, bottled water and some spirits to quench those spectator thirsts. If you’re after a more healthy food option, try the salad, sandwich and sushi. But because the Adelaide Showground is a licensed venue – it’s a huge no-no to BYO, please and thank you!

About The Showground
The Showground is renowned for hosting world class events. Boasting state of the art pavilions, a huge arena and loads of space, the Adelaide Showground is a premier venue for functions in South Australia. And for those reasons the Adelaide Showground is jam packed with events all year round, hosting events such as the Great Adelaide Show, Big Day Out Music Festival, BMX World Championships, Adelaide Showground Farmers Market (which runs every Sunday) and of course providing a bouting home to the Adelaide Roller Derby League.
Recently, the Adelaide Showground became the largest Urban Solar Power Station in Australia, with 12,760 panels stationed over 6 roofs. The installation has the capacity to generate more than 1400 mega-watt hours of solar electricity each year, enough to power 250 homes!
No Public Skating
We gotta get serious for a minute here.
Due to insurance conditions, no public skating is allowed at the venue during the tournament weekend. That means anything with wheels, such as roller skates, skateboards or scooters.
Only skaters registered and identifiable as tournament participants will be able to skate. So if you want to skate and you’re not on a tournament team, you need to tell your league beforehand so they can register you. If you don’t have a roller derby league, this is a good chance to kick back, soak up some roller derby action and maybe think about joining your local league in future.
Please don’t put wheels on your feet unless you’re a registered skater, and help us keep the tournament safe.
