Venue

Adelaide Showground

The Great Southern Slam will once again take place at the iconic Adelaide Showground, Wayville in South Australia.

Adelaide Showground boasts state of the art pavilions, a huge arena and loads of space.  It is the premier venue for functions in South Australia and of course is the bouting home of the Adelaide Roller Derby League.  It is located in the suburb of Wayville, on the south-west corner of the heritage-listed Adelaide Parklands, and is just a 5 minute drive from the Adelaide CBD.

Tournament bouts will be held in both the Goyder and Wayville pavilions of the Adelaide Showground; huge open indoor spaces each capable of housing 2-4 derby tracks, and surfaced with polished concrete.

The Goyder and Wayville pavilions are closest to the section of the Showground bounded by Rose Terrace and Goodwood Road. Bout day entry for spectators and supporters is usually via the Rose Terrace gates, and to tournament participants via Rose Terrace or Leader Street.

On Sunday mornings the Farmer’s Market is accessible via the Leader Street entrance and is a great place to power-up with some excellent coffee and tasty foods before a massive day of roller derby.

Track-side food and beverages are available, with classic snack foods such as hotdogs and chips, as well as beer, soft drinks, bottled water and some spirits to quench those spectator thirsts. If you’re after a more healthy food option, try the salad, sandwich and sushi. There are also a gang of food trucks… But because the Adelaide Showground is a licensed venue – it’s a huge no-no to BYO, please and thank you!

No Public Skating

Due to insurance conditions, no public skating is allowed at the venue during the tournament weekend. That means anything with wheels, such as roller skates, skateboards or scooters.

Only skaters and officials registered and identifiable as tournament participants will be able to skate. So if you want to skate and you’re not on a tournament team, you need to tell your league beforehand so they can register you. If you don’t have a roller derby league, this is a good chance to kick back, soak up some roller derby action and maybe think about joining your local league in future.

Please don’t put wheels on your feet unless you’re a registered skater, and help us keep the tournament safe.
