Love Letter #5

Hi AUS & NZ Roller Derby Leagues… This is TGSS 2016 newsletter #5!

TGSS Lovers! Holy moly. Do we have a surprise for you…

You may have noticed that we had a little TBC on the recent tournament pool info we sent out. Of course some of you might be wondering what in fact is happening with those spots… and well, we can finally tell you one of our plans!

A few of you golden oldies might remember a few TGSS’ ago we had a potluck team – a glorious creation of skaters from all across Australia and NZ coming together unpractised, unprepared but ultimately the most derby-love filled team of strangers to ever exist!

Well, we are very excited to be able to once again have a potluck team at TGSS! This team will fill one of the division 2 spots and is open for ANY skater not already participating in the tournament (usual rules apply – ladies, 18+, no officials etc)

If you are selected to be in the potluck team you will NOT be able to participate in challenge bouts.

So long story short, we need to move on this team QUICKLY! If you are keen to be selected for this POTLUCK TEAM we need you to fill out this survey by COB THIS FRIDAY (6th May).

Then, on Saturday before our league home team game (Salty Dolls v Road Train Rollers – tickets still available!) we will select the players for the team out of a helmet. We will film it and then we will post it on the internet. It will be magic.

Those people who are selected will have to accept their position by Wednesday 11thMay, otherwise we will do another draw and pick another player! The cost to play in this team is $88 per skater.

WOWEEE. Seriously, we get way too excited about all these surprises we give to you guys!

Well Oliver Twist, in yet another move to make this tournament bigger and better, we have added a consolation round for the losers of the quarter finals. This means that for teams progressing past their pools, you are now guaranteed 2 finals games as opposed to the 1 of previous years! It also means another opportunity for WFTDA sanctioning for those teams that progress through the first round!

We need a lie down, this is all too much…

WFTDA member leagues should all have received an email today about the option to sanction games within your pool. Please get onto this and reply ASAP so all the necessary paperwork can be submitted in time.

Our pre-sale weekend pass tickets are now available for purchase through our mates over at Oztix.

Tickets purchased are $60 (+ booking fee) and are for all 3 days! Purchase now to save money, and to ensure your spot trackside.

We know you all love to buy some presale merch, and the LIMITED TGSS 2016 product line is on its way. We don’t want to give anything away just yet, but let’s just say that its somewhat inspired by our after party theme…

This LIMITED EDITION will only be on sale for a week – NEXT WEEK – from Monday, so make sure you keep an eye on the TGSS website for all the info!

As you would already be aware every team will be allocated a space for selling merchandise. You don’t need to action anything to accept this it will just happen.

  • Your league will be responsible for manning the space throughout the tournament
  • you will be able to sell over all days of the tournament
  • Space allocated is half a trestle table
  • you can leave your merch overnight covered up at your own risk

We are however offering an upgraded stall option for leagues in the Bout Village. For $100 you will be allocated a full trestle table and power supply. If you would be interested in the upgrade please email as soon as possible as there are limited spaces.

We have had reports that most of the op shops around the country have been attacked by vicious derby girls in the search for the ultimate 80s attire. Monday night after the final whistle of the weekend blows in the Ridley Pavilion.

Leagues, we need to have photos of your team uniform colours for our officials… we only have about 14 so far, that makes us sad face… PLEASE send through a picture of your team’s uniform – both dark and light tops to our officials:

Please do it before they get mad… we don’t want the officials getting mad!
