Adelaide Roller Derby invites you to contribute to the success of the highly anticipated return of the single largest international Roller Derby Tournament in the southern hemisphere, The Great Southern Slam.

Women’s flat track roller derby has exploded in Australia over the last 5 years, and with the addition of so many amazing leagues across Australia and New Zealand, there presented a need for both competition and community connection on an inter state and international scale.

The Great Southern Slam (TGSS) will take place on June 9th, and continue right through to June 11th at the Adelaide Showgrounds. It will be comprised of a main tournament bracket to determine the top seated Roller Derby leagues in Australia, as well as provide informal challenge bout opportunities for all leagues who participate. Both to enhance the competition of Roller Derby in the Southern Hemisphere, and to strengthen the community ties this unique women’s sport creates.

The first Great Southern Slam was held in 2009, and attracted skaters from all regions of Australia and New Zealand. It was the first and only tournament of it’s kind in Australia, and is the brainchild of Adelaide Roller Derby.

As you may know, Adelaide Roller Derby (ADRD) has been rolling since 2007 and are a not for profit organization committed to the empowerment of women and the strengthening of community, through sport. Over the years ADRD has grown to be 100 members strong, and attracts crowds in excess of 3,000, with last years Grand Final selling out within 72 hours of tickets going on sale.

We anticipate the return of The Great Southern Slam in 2012 to be even bigger and better than 2010. With the buzz reaching all corners of Australia, skaters, and vendors alike are crawling over each other to get their registrations in now.

We were extremely fortunate in 2010 to have the assistance of South Australian corporate sponsors, much like yourself, to assist with both funding and in-kind arrangements. We would love to have that local support again, both to ensure that TGSS is a top notch event, and to keep community ties strong here in Adelaide.
